Ever since electronic components were integrated into textiles, there has been a great deal of interest in smart clothing. In workwear and protective clothing, wearable heating systems keep the upper body warm, LEDs provide additional visibility in the dark and sensors monitor firefighters' vital parameters. However, even clever clothing cannot be worn forever. They also have to be washed at some point. Though, the question is, how they can be laundered. Up to now, the care label may indicate care instructions without giving a reference causing uncertainties among users, retailers and rental service companies. DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, will provide a remedy. During a strategy workshop on July 9, 2024 and intensive discussion took place, luckily postponing the project of creating a new laundring standard. Though 20 participants were representing a variety of industries the did not represent the entity of "interested parties". When activities in Berlin continue, more companies should get involved. Otherwise they might be "overruled" by a standard that turns out to be unsuitable for them.
